Black Panther
Since the whole world has pretty much already seen Black Panther, if you're reading this my guess is, you just woke up from a coma and are picking and choosing which Marvel movies to catch up on. Well, this is NOT one to skip. Black Panther manages to be a satisfying standalone origin story, smack dab in the middle of the most successful movie franchise ever! A truly impressive feat.
Although the action and fight scenes are incredible, the strength of this film is the characters. Director Ryan Coogler does any amazing job developing all the main players in the story, giving real weight to their stories and relationships. Michael B Jordan’s role as the main villain, Killmonger, was a big stand out in the film. A rare comic book villain with clear motives and a captivating story. Letitia Wright’s bad ass portrayal of Shuri, princess of Wakanda/next generation tech genius was also a major highlight, cementing the character as an instant classic in the MCU. I could honestly list out the entire cast here because every character was so compelling and original.
The movie does get political. Sometimes movie try and smack you over the head with their agenda, but Coogler does a great job weaving his message into the story in a very subtle, interesting, and most importantly, effective way. Walking out of the film, the story and message stayed with me as did the impact of what this movie means to millions of movie goers young and old.
So, you should see this movie if…
- You're a cat person and will support any film about any type of feline
- Your 81-year-old grandma has just seen it making you officially the last person on earth who hasn’t
OR
- You are looking for a movie with action, heart, a great story, amazing characters and beautiful scenery
